Visitors can also find many events all the year round: carnival celebrations, historical and Renaissance commemorations, festivals of typical, local products, aperitifs and music shows.
Such events are suitable for anyone, those who wish to “make party” and those who, on the other hand, are looking for a quiet and peaceful day dedicated to relax or a special evening spent while tasting local delicacies.
Below, you find some suggestions for the best events and food festivals in the Mugello valley scheduled for Autumn 2013, the period of the year in which you can enjoy the incredible panorama and taste the wood products of this season, especially chestnuts and truffles!
CHESTNUT AND UNDERBRUSH TREASURES FESTIVAL
Palazzuolo sul Senio - Every Sunday of October
Palazzuolo sul Senio celebrates the “Marrone di Mugello” (“Mugello Chestnut” Festival). This delicious Autumn fruit gives life to tempting cakes such as the castagnaccio, or tasty topini, tortellini and chestnut flour. Every Sunday of the month will be a perfect occasion for satisfying the palate in the several restaurants and farms of the area with tastings of fowl, polenta (cornmeal mush) and the many typical Autumn dishes.
Marradi - on October, 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th
Here comes the Autumn in Marradi and the traditional Chestnut Festival comes back as well. Just think that, this year, the event is going to celebrate its 50th edition! In late morning “Il Riccio” self-service restaurant will be open to the public, where it will be possible to taste specialities fo the traditional Marradi's cuisine, such as the cornmeal mush with porcino mushrooms and roasted meat. In addition, at the festival visitors will find street artists and entertainment for children, the handicraft street market with many stalls selling typical products throughout the whole village.
BARDICCIO AND TORTELLO FESTIVAL
Vicchio - on October, 5th,6th, 12th,13th, 19th, 20th, 26th,27th
The festival wants to celebrate the typical Tuscan sausage, the Bardiccio. You will also find many typical specialties of the Mugello valley, such as the Florentine style steak (“Bistecca alla fiorentina”), Mugello's Tortelli pasta and grilled meat. Food stalls will be located in the new sports complex even in case of bad weather conditions.
FRIED FOOD FESTIVAL
Sieci - on October 4th-6th
The festival will take place at the Croce Azzurra restaurant offering meat or fish menus, main courses and traditional specialities. The event has a generous purpose: the proceeds from the festival will be donated to charity for the purchase of a new means of transport that will allow to increase social and health service for indigent people.
CHESTNUT AND TYPICAL PRODUCTS FESTIVAL
San Piero a Sieve - on October, 13th and 20th
During the festival, you will have the chance to taste some of the typical products of Mugello mountains, among the others:roast chestnuts (“bruciate”), “marrone” chestnuts, cakes and typical products of the area. The event will be held at Area Feste in via Roma.
BLACK AND WHITE TRUFFLE EXHIBITION MARKET
Barberino del Mugello – October, 27th-28th and November, 3rd- 4th
At this exhibition market, you'll find many typical, local products, you'll have the opportunity to taste and purchase truffle, agricultural and food products, chestnuts, oil and honey.
CORNMEAL MUSH AND CHESTNUT FESTIVAL
Ronta (Borgo San Lorenzo) - October, 19th and 20th
Organized by the ELLEN CLUB 99 association, the festival has as protagonists cornmeal mush and chestnuts coming from the woods around the village. Enjoy such delicious, typical products with a glass of wine, good music and much fun.
CHESTNUT AND PIETRA SERENA FESTIVAL
Firenzuola - on October, 13th and 20th
This is an exhibition of fine, handmade Pietra Serena stone products that have been created by firms of Firenzuola and conceived for indoor and outdoor furniture. In addition, here you will have the chance to purchase Mugello chestnuts, potatoes, walnuts, pumpkins for decoration, jujubes, dog rose berries and other biological products.
SMARRONANDO E SVINANDO FESTIVAL
Firenzuola - on October, 13th
The “Chestnut and good wine festival” comes back in October with its delicious chestnuts (marroni) and chestnut-derived products, wine, specialities and local handicrafts. The event will be held in Piazza Don Stefano Casini 1
COLLECTORS IN PIAZZA SCARPERIA
Scarperia - From October, 6th to December, 1st 2013
Exchange event of antiques, second hand and collecting objects, numismatics and stamp collecting. About 60 exhibitors will meet on the first Sunday of each month at this fantastic exchange event. Don't miss it if you're a fan of collectors' items and antiques!
10TH EDITION OF MAGICAL ADVENT
Palazzuolo sul Senio - from December 1st to 22nd
In the heart of High Mugello, tourists will walk the streets of the historical centre while singing Christmas songs, marvelling at the traditional and innovative nativities of the “One thousand nativities” itinerary in Palazzuolo sul Senio. In Piazza dell'Avvento (Piazza IV Novembre), you will find stalls with Christmas decorations, nativities, coloured balls, arrangements, candles, etc. In addition, children will also find Santa Claus Hut, where they will have the chance to talk to him and ask for their gifts.
1,000 NATIVITIES FOR PALAZZUOLO
Palazzuolo sul Senio - From December 8th 2013 to January 6th 2014
It's a cultural-tourist itinerary crossing the whole village, which is dedicated to the old tradition of nativity. Also, a competition for the most beautiful and rated nativity will be held on this occasion.
