The Pieve of San Pietro

The Pieve of San Pietro, San Piero a Sieve, Mugello

This pieve was founded in the 11th century. Inside there are a font in white and yellow glazed earthenware by Luca della Robbia engraved with the images of S. Giovanni's life, and a wooden crucifix overhanging the high altar. The bell tower was built in 1607 and has been completely renovated in 1906.

This castle was built toward the middle of the 15th century by Michelozzo, wanted by Cosimo the Old of the Medici. In Mugello it remains one of the few buildings which mantains intact the ancient medieval structure.

This convent was built by the Ubaldini before the year 1000. Starting from 1212 it was given to San Francesco, who rendered it one of the most important convent of his order. In 1420 it was acquired by Cosimo the Old who wanted Michelozzo to restore it. Today the convent houses a little museum of sacred art, the Medici's Hall where it is possible to admire, among the other works, Donatello's "Dying Christ".
